Christina Callahan

Christina Callahan is based in Calgary, Alberta Canada. She has been lampworking for over twenty years. She first fell in love with hot glass while visiting Italy at the age of fifteen. After returning home she decided that she really wanted to learn how to work with hot glass. Her hot glass craft began as a hobby. Her parents allowed her to set up her first studio in their garage. She began by making beads. She would take week-long courses during the summer while attending university. She enjoyed many of those classes but always wanted more of a challenge. She fell in love with making murrine after taking a class with Loren Stump. Since then, she has taken two more classes with Loren and has made hundreds of murrine complex canes. Studying murrine and their application inevitably led her to studying paperweights. She loved the freedom of expression that the paperweight offered. Paperweights can be created using many different techniques and styles. "Paperweights are really a blank canvas for the artist to create whatever their heart desires."
