Using a painted glass technique, a tranquil mountain lake scene is evoked on a white plaque artfully set at the fore of an upright weight. A sky blue ground, painted with billowing white clouds, forms a backdrop to the scene, which includes an abandoned rowboat at lake's edge, a cabin, sloping green meadows and a snowy mountain range. A wintry landscape of bare trees, snow-covered fields and billowing white snow clouds forms the painted glass ground against which a brilliant red, three-dimensional cardinal becomes the focus. Just beneath the dome and resting on a perch of snow-dusted pine needles, this crimson bird is evoked within the vocabulary of conventional lampwork artistry and then very poetically and originally juxtaposed against a flat painted glass ground.
