Larry and Marti Visit Chicago!

Larry and Marti spent a week at L. H. Selman Ltd. Chicago at the end of January. For Ben and Mitch and me it was a happy reunion with our friends and mentors, and a welcome chance to hear their thoughts on our progress to date. When first in The Fine Arts Building for a visit, a month or so before our actual move to the new premises, Larry and Marti felt quite thoroughly under its spell. I think it’s a place to which they were glad to return and that it was a pleasure for them to now find their very own life’s work ensconced in its midst. The feeling must certainly have been somewhat surreal, since the new gallery is a kind of transposition of the old, created, as it is, with Larry's Santa Cruz cabinets. Each day we had tutorials from both Larry and Marti, and spent time discussing everything from display to consignments to how to choose auction weights. We are lucky to have their continued council and wealth of knowledge from which to draw in our decision making and hope this visit will have been the first of many, many more.
